EOU Men, C of I Women Lead after Day 1 of CCC Championships 5/12/2018 12:44:59 AM HERMISTON, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men’s team and the College of Idaho women’s team lead after day 1 of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Track and Field Championships, presented by U.S. Bank on Friday. Men’s Recap The Mountaineers had five individual champions on the men’s side to total 106 points through the first day. EOU had strong performances in the throws as Chase Van Wyck won the shot put at 15.11 meters. Max Fahlgren and Steven Deadwylier finished first and second in the hammer throw at 50.12 and 47.26 meters, respectively. Jacob Bookout took home the title in the men’s high jump at 1.97 meters, Matthew Kirkendall nearly broke the meet record with a time of 14.50 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and Thomas Morrell III won the 1,500 meters with an NAIA ‘B’ qualifying mark of 3:55.65 to cap off the Mountaineer individual victories. Southern Oregon finished day 1 in second place with 95 points. Kevin Poteracke once again won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a thrilling race, besting Northwest Christian’s TJ Wright by .06 of a second. The Raiders also got an individual victory by Zach Beltz, who hit an auto qualifier in the long jump of 7.32 meters. SOU had its final win of the day on the men’s side in the 4x100-meter relay as the team of Jeremiah Emershy, Eli Chapman, Aidan Tank and Rey Vega won the race with an auto qualifying mark of 41.42 meters. Oregon Tech stands in third place with 79.5 points with two individual champions. Travis Thomas won the 400-meter dash with an NAIA ‘B’ standard time of 48.33 meters. Mark French then won the 10K race with an NAIA ‘A’ mark of 31:06.99 as he punched his ticket to nationals. Women’s Recap The College of Idaho used the top-four marks in the women’s 10K to take a commanding lead into day 2 with 120.5 points. Southern Oregon is in second place with 90.5 points. The Yotes finished the day with five individual champions as Ashtyn Ellis won the 10K with a time of 37:48.63. Kaitlyn Schut took second, followed by Tamika Russell and Molly Vitale-Sullivan. Russell also hit an ‘A’ standard mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:11.21. Kiersten Lancaster won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.41 seconds. Hayley Morse dominated the throws with victories in the shot put and the hammer throw, hitting an ‘A’ standard mark of 51.09 meters in the hammer. Southern Oregon sits in second place with four individual victories. Arianna Daniel hit an auto qualifying mark in the 400-meter dash of 55.90 seconds. Jessa Perkinson also hit an auto qualifier in the 1,500-meter run to take first with a time of 4:31.69. Loghan Sprauer won the team’s final individual title in the high jump with a height of 1.65 meters. The team capped off the first day in the 4x100-meter relay, as the quartet of Savannah Greenwade, Arianna Daniel, Mergot Hamman and Lindsey Bonney set the meet record in the event with a time of 46.70 seconds. Eastern Oregon sits in third place with 56 points, followed closely by Corban with 55.5 points. The Mountaineers were backed by the first place finish of freshman Ebony Wilson in the long jump, hitting a ‘B’ standard mark of 5.61 meters. Day 2 of the championships will begin at 11 a.m. with the men’s javelin and women’s discus along with the women’s pole vault and men’s and women’s triple jump.
