Wilson Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, All-Conference Team Announced

LA GRANDE, Ore. – College of Idaho’s Josh Wilson topped off a successful 2014-15 campaign by being selected as the Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball player of the year after a vote by the conference head coaches.
 
Wilson, a native of Las Angeles, Calif., averaged 10.8 points a game on the season and finished with the fifth best rebounding average at 7.3. He ended the season fourth in assists with 126 (3.9 average) and second in steals with 65.
 
The 6-3 guard played in all 32 games for the Yotes, leading them to a first place finish in the regular season and a Cascade Conference championship.
 
Concordia’s Tyler Velasquez and Warner Pacific’s Michael Hall tied for the conference’s defensive player of the year. Velasquez, a senior guard from Colorado Springs, Colo., compiled a league high 94 steals on the season in just 30 games. Hall, the senior forward from Eagle River, Alaska, tallied the fourth most blocks in the CCC with 41, helping the Knights finish the season with the best ranked defense, allowing only 63.7 points a game.
 
Warner Pacific’s head coach was chosen as the coach of the year after leading his team to a 14-4 record in conference play to earn a piece of the CCC regular season title. His Knights ranked as high as 15 in the NAIA Men’s Basketball Division II Top 25 poll and made it to the semifinal round of the Cascade Conference postseason tournament.
 
Oregon Tech’s Lavar Moore was named the conference’s newcomer of the year after his season with the Owls. The junior guard form Waterbury, Conn., scored the second most points, averaging 22.0 on the season. He also led the conference in 3-pointers made with 97 in only 29 games.
