NAMPA, Idaho – Southern Oregon earned titles in the four of the six running races of the day, claiming a slim eight point lead after Day 1 of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at the Northwest Nazarene Track.

Evergreen jumper Anthony Johnson made history, winning the Geoducks first individual CCC titles in program history, sweeping the long jump (23-11 1/2) and the high jump (6-9).

College of idaho’s Austin Basterrechea, who won the decathlon two weeks ago, claimed the title in the 110-hurdles (15.45), despite being in the “B” heat, while setting a school record with a second-place finish in the long jump (23-9 3/4) and a third-place finish in the high jump (6-5 1/2).

Southern dominated the running events – as Jonz Olander repeated as 400-meter champ (48.25), national leader Eric Avila won a tight 1,500-meters (3:46.96), Eric Ghelfi battled a late day storm to win the 10,000-meters (32.17.88), and the Raiders 4x100 relay repeated as CCC champs (41.58).

Concordia is a close second – thanks to wins in the multi-event by Nate Moses in the discus (184-6) and a meet record victory by Darien Moore in the hammer (211-8 1/2).
