Holt defends her individual title

CALDWELL, Idaho – A dominating performance by the College of Idaho – as Lady Yote runners finished in the first four positions, helped the second-ranked team in the NAIA win their fifth Cascade Conference Women’s Cross Country championship in last six years, claiming today’s title at Brothers Park.

The Lady Yotes outdistanced a quality field with a mere 19 team points, well ahead of eighth-ranked Northwest Christian (48), and third-place Southern Oregon (89) – winning the title for the third-straight year.

Defending league and NAIA champion Hillary Holt ran away with her second-straight individual crown – bolting to the lead at the gun, building a 10 second lead after 2,000-meters and cruised to win in 17:53, nearly a minute ahead of her next-fastest competitor.

The remaining scorers for the Yotes were packed tightly, separated by just 26 seconds – as Sora Klopfenstein placed second (18:42), Lila Klopfenstein took third (18:49), Sarah Johnson took fourth (18:50), and Ruth Lewinski ninth (19:08).

NCU ran extremely well, as their gap between their first and fifth runners was just 25 seconds. Emily McLean led the Beacons in sixth place (19:04), Alyssa Harmon took seventh (19:05), and Allison Duvenez took eighth (19:07).

Holt was honored as the CCC Runner of the Year for her efforts – winning her fourth race of 2013, while C of I head coach Pat McCurry was named Coach of the Year.

The Lady Yotes earn the CCC’s automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships, to be run Nov. 23 at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan.
