LA GRANDE, Ore. –The Concordia women’s soccer team has been named the Adidas Team of the Week, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.

The Cavaliers (4-0-0) defeated No. 12 Hastings (Neb.) and No. 3 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in the Cavalier Cup. Playing in front of a home crowd at Tuominen Yard, Concordia put together two of the best wins in the country this weekend. CU hosted the nation’s second, third, fourth, and 12th ranked teams in the classic.

“It was an exciting weekend at home for our team and we are pleased about being nominated for this award,” Concordia head coach Grant Landy said. “It was a great atmosphere at home in our stadium in front of great fan support. The positive results were a product of a collective team effort on both sides of the ball.”

Concordia proved its No. 2 national ranking during the classic. The Cavaliers ended the weekend with a pair of wins, shutting out its opponents, 4-0. CU’s defense held its counterparts to a total of just four shots.

In the NAIA National Game of the Week Friday, Concordia stifled Hastings’ offense in a 2-0 win. The Cavs had a 22-to-3 advantage in shots and a remarkable 18-to-0 advantage in corners. Sunday, CU held Lindsey Wilson to just one shot in the match, while the Cavalier’s offense totaled 13 shots and eight corners, in the 2-0 victory.

“Our goal is to host a tournament of this caliber every year,” Landy said. “The weather was fantastic and our fans created a great atmosphere for a collegiate soccer match. I would like to thank everyone involved who helped the tournament run smoothly.”

Concordia has not allowed any of its first four opponents to total more than six shots in their match against them. Overall, Cavalier opponents have totaled only 15 shots so far this season for an average of 3.75 shots per match.

The Cavaliers host No. 18 Concordia-Irvine on Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m., before traveling to Willamette for a match Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.
