LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Southern Oregon University men’s basketball team, which won its sixth and seventh games out of the last eight, has been named the “Verizon Team of the Week” in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the conference office announced Sunday.

The Raiders are riding a three game win-streak after defeating Concordia University and No. 17 Warner Pacific College at home Thursday and Friday. SOU improved to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play, and remained in the hunt for the top spot in the conference standings.

Southern knocked off Concordia Thursday, 80-77. The Raiders’ Eric Thompson led four double-digit scorers with 18 points. Terriel Thomas recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. SOU held off an impressive late Cavalier rally behind 55 percent shooting from the field in the second half.

Friday, Southern Oregon shot 50 percent from the field in an 81-69 upset over Warner Pacific. Thomas had his second consecutive double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Thompson added 17 points, Kyle Tedder had 15 points and Jordan Highland chipped in 12 points.

The Raiders are six spots out of the NAIA Div. 2 Top 25 poll, receiving 20 votes. Southern welcomes the nation’s third-ranked team and its rival, Oregon Tech, for its next game Jan. 7.
