OIT's Fiegi Named CCC Player of Year; Looney Voted Coach of Year

PORTLAND, Ore. – Ryan Fiegi of Oregon Tech, who ranked among the league’s top 10 in eight statistical categories, has been named the 2007-08 men’s basketball Player of the Year in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the CCC office announced Monday.

During the CCC’s regular season, Fiegi, a 6-7 senior guard from Medford, Ore., ranked third in the league in scoring (21.1 ppg) and second in assists (4.7 apg) while helping the Owls to a runner-up finish behind regular season champion Eastern Oregon. Fiegi also finished in the league’s top 10 in rebounding (ninth, 6.6 rpg), steals (sixth, 1.8 spg), blocked shots (ninth, 0.75 bpg), defensive rebounds (fourth, 5.7 pg), assist/turnover ratio (fourth, 2.08) and minutes played (third, 34.9 mpg).

Bryan Champ of The College of Idaho was named the CCC’s Defensive Player of the Year after leading the nation in steals through Feb. 23, including an average of 3.5 per game in 20 CCC contests. Greg George of Northwest, a 6-9, 235-pound center from Seattle, was named the league’s Freshman of the Year. In 20 league games, George averaged 14.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Nick Moore of Evergreen, a 6-7 junior transfer from Lower Columbia CC, was named the league’s Newcomer of the Year after averaging 14.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in league play.

Fourth-year Eastern Oregon coach Ryan Looney, who guided the Mountaineers to the school’s first conference title in men’s basketball in 38 years, was voted the league’s Coach of the Year. EOU captured the regular season CCC title with a 17-3 record and earned the Mounties’ first-ever berth in the NAIA Division II tournament.
